AUGMENTED REALITY

Mira announced the Prism, a $99 augmented reality headset, which is kind of like google cardboard for AR. The user adds their smartphone, and with a bit of software and a transparent, reflective visor, they can see objects floating infront of them.

Speaking of AR, Google Glass is back, now with a focus on enterprise applications. The team at Alphabet's research department, X Company, recently wrote about how the technology is now being used by mechanics at General Electric's Aviation department, as well as in a bunch of other industries.

The AR headset company Meta have also taken an interesting step recently by getting rid of monitors in their office space, replacing them with their headsets.

ROBOTICS

Logistics company DHL has begun piloting the use of Fetch robots in their warehouses, speeding up and automating the process of moving packages around.

Also, from the creator of the Roomba is the Tertill, a new solar powered garden robot which has a primary function of hunting and killing weeds. The user just sets the bot down in the garden, presses the button, and it will autonomously search and destroy.

FUTURE LIVING

Ten Fold Engineering company is developing a range of different transportable housing systems, which can be loaded onto trucks and unfolded at their destination. They have tonnes of different designs, and they're kind of what I imagine dwellings in space colonies would look like.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Martin Mander has created a great Raspberry Pi AI system using an old wall mounted intercom. The users presses the button and asks the Google AIY a question. He's also created an instructables page which details how it's made.

AUGMENTED HUMANS

Amputee veterans have begun receiving DARPA's new LUKE robotic arms to help improve quality of life. An array of sensors attached to the body and feet, allows the wearers to manipulate the multi-jointed arms and hands in various ways. Pretty awesome.

The EPFL have also been developing a new exo skeleton for the elderly which has a balancing system that can detect slips, and automatically adjust to prevent the wearer from falling.

RECENTLY ON NODE

Recently I made a new video showing you how to make a stealth Pi Zero USB dongle computer. It's pretty simple, and all the files needed to do it are available too.

This week I also made an update video on the Decentraland project, which aims to build a decentralized virtual reality using ethereum and other P2P technologies. A few things have changed since last time, so check it out if you're interested.

Alright, that's it for this week. Thanks for watching, and see you in the next video.
